Candia, NH Crowns & Bridges
If damaged or missing teeth affect your appearance, you may find it hard to smile and really mean it.
At Hillside Family Dental Care, we want to ensure that you receive exceptional dental care that's just right for your unique needs. We will work with you to find solutions that restore your smile and protect your oral health. Often, customized crowns and bridges will restore your healthy smile and serve you for many years.
Uses for Dental Crowns
We commonly use dental crowns to add a layer of protection for a weak or damaged tooth. Our quality dental crowns are made of durable materials like porcelain and work like a natural tooth so you can speak clearly and eat again with confidence.
There are many situations where we may choose a dental crown as the most effective treatment:
- A crown is needed to provide support for teeth weakened by dental wear.
- A fractured or cracked tooth is so damaged it cannot be restored any other way.
- Protection and strength are needed after a root canal.
- You had a dental implant placed and need a crown to restore function and esthetics.
Many people refer to dental crowns as “caps” because they create a little helmet around the tooth to support and enclose it. Since crowns conceal your natural tooth, they are an excellent solution for correcting cosmetic dental imperfections, like a severely discolored tooth that can’t be whitened professionally.
There are several materials to choose from when selecting the crown that’s most appropriate for you. These include all porcelain (the most popular for cosmetic reasons), porcelain on metal, and gold. Each material is unique and serves a specific purpose. As we move through the process, we'll discuss your options and help you decide which material best fits your dental needs.
Fixed Bridges Replace Missing Teeth
An unattractive empty space in your smile is not pleasant to look at, affects your self-confidence, and makes it difficult to perform simple actions like speaking and chewing. But at our Candia, NH dental office, we create customized dental bridges that function perfectly, improve your appearance, and benefit your oral health.
Aside from the obvious cosmetic problem, why are missing teeth a concern? Without sufficient support around the empty space, adjacent teeth will naturally move into the empty space. This movement creates tooth misalignment, and in the future, may even contribute to problems like chronic grinding and clenching and the painful symptoms associated with TMJ.
Dr. Pakula often uses dental bridges in the following ways:
- To restore a tooth to full function
- To fill the space left by a missing tooth
- To prevent surrounding teeth from shifting out of place
We securely attach your customized dental bridges to neighboring teeth with long-lasting crowns, making them very stable and functional. Some patients also choose to add a dental implant for extra stability.

Frequently Asked Questions
If you have a tooth that is damaged because of injury or decay, we need to protect it as soon as possible with a dental crown. Our goal is to do everything we can to preserve as much natural tooth structure as possible. A crown protects all sides of the tooth and may be recommended when there’s not enough tooth structure to support a restoration like a filling.
Some of the situations where a crown is an appropriate solution include:
- Restoring a tooth damaged by injury or decay
- Protecting a tooth after a large filling
- Reinforcing a tooth after a root canal procedure
- Functioning as the crown for a dental implant
- Restoring a tooth that is badly worn or cracked
- Serving as an anchor for a dental bridge
Dr. Emily Pakula will help you understand why a crown is necessary and what the procedure involves. She will recommend a crown only if it is the most sensible option available to protect your oral health.
If you have a damaged tooth and think you might need a crown to protect it, please call our Candia office to arrange an appointment. We will explain all your options and help you decide if a crown is right for you.
